Angelo Onorati received a Masters of Mechanical Engineering in 1989 at the Politecnico di Milano, then he achieved a PhD in Energy Engineering in 1993. During his PhD, he spent a research stay at the University of Manchester (UMIST) in 1991. He became a lecturer at the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano in 1993 in the field of “Fluid Machines”. From 1998 to 2003 he was an associate professor in the same university, in 2004 he became a full professor.
He currently coordinates the activities of the Internal Combustion Engine Group at Politecnico di Milano, working in the field of I.C. engine CFD modeling and simulation, for the development and application of 1D/3D thermo-fluid dynamic codes. He has established several international research collaborations with universities and companies in the automotive field.
His main research subjects are: 1D/3D thermo-fluid dynamic modeling of unsteady reacting flows in I.C. engine duct-systems and after-treatment devices, CFD modeling of S.I. and C.I. engine combustion processes. He is the author of more than 100 publications. He has been an SAE member for fourteen years, in April 2011 he received the Lloyd L. Withrow distinguished speaker SAE award.
